Indie game developers are known for affording themselves certain liberties that are sometimes unavailable to those working at large studios.
One such individual is the Kazakhstani developer of Russian descent MrDrNose, the creator and lead developer of the game “Voices of the Void”. Maxim (the developer’s real name) had no qualms about speaking Russian before 2021–2022 and maintained a profile on the Russian social network VKontakte under the name “Argemia Armuntela”.[1] On that platform, he actively participated in text-based role-playing games with children under the age of 14. At times, these exchanges bore a strong resemblance to veiled sexual grooming conducted over the internet.[2]
Some time later, the future creator of the series “The Amazing Digital Circus” became his fan and even suggested the idea of adding a character from her dream named “Rufus”.[3] Subsequently, in mid-to-late 2025, she cosplayed the character “Doctor Kel” from “Voices of the Void”.[4] Gooseworx has always shown a certain sympathy toward developers from Russia and post-Soviet countries in general, even despite the well-known events that began in 2022.[5][6]
Yet Maxim himself, while living in Kazakhstan and being ethnically Russian (though, according to some sources, possibly having Kazakh or Tatar roots), beats his chest and loudly proclaims his hatred for “cursed Rashka,” lamenting that Russian-speaking users ever found out about him and his games.[7] It is probably in such moments that he lies on his bed at home, imagining that very “Erie” from his own game — the one who will always support him, cheer him up, and perhaps do something more...[8]
